Truecaller itself is an application that services caller identification, call blocking, fast messaging, and the ability to make call recordings. This application is available on Android and iOS based devices.

This leak regarding the Truecaller application that is connected to the WhatsApp application and other messaging applications comes from Reuters. It is also said that currently the integration is still in the beta stage.

“This feature is currently still in beta, but will soon be launched globally in May,” said Truecaller Chief Executive Alan Mamedi.

According to a direct report from Truecaller, telemarketing to fraud calls have increased in various countries, for example in India users get an average of around 17 spam calls in a whole month.

Meanwhile, India’s telecommunications regulator in February directed operators to begin blocking telemarketing calls over their networks using artificial intelligence-powered barriers.

Meanwhile, Truecaller is also in the discussion stage with telecommunications operators to be able to implement solutions to deal with telephone calls that disturb users.

“Over the last two weeks, we have seen a spike in reports from users in India experiencing spam calls via WhatsApp,” said Mamedia. It should be noted that telemarketers switching to Internet calling are quite new to the market.

Currently, WhatsApp is the most used messaging service in India. The company says its spam detection technology finds and takes action on accounts that engage in abnormal behavior and allows users to block and report problem accounts.

On the other hand, Truecaller also has many users in India with a total of 250 million users. This spam call prevention app has 350 million users globally. [FY/HBS]
