iwanrj.com – Jakarta – Technological sophistication Artificial Intelligence (AI), it turns out to be dangerous for humanity, because Former Google AI Boss Geoffrey Hinton said that AI technology is more threatening than climate change.

Geoffrey Hinton is an AI expert because of his work entitled Learning representations by back-propagating errors in 1986 was a milestone in the development of neural networks that support AI technology.

In addition, the man nicknamed “Godfathers AI” was awarded the Turing Awards in 2018 in recognition of his research breakthroughs related to AI. However, Hinton recently decided to leave Google’s VP out of fear that AI would wreak havoc.

In an interview with Reuters, Hinton elaborated on his fear of AI. quoted Telset from Gadgets 360 on Monday (08/05/2023), Hinton said that the threat of AI technology is greater than climate change.

“I don’t want to underestimate climate change. I don’t want to say, you don’t have to worry about climate change because it’s also a very big risk. But I think it’s probably going to be more urgent,” Hinton said.

The 75-year-old man believes that a solution to climate change has been found, namely to stop burning so that carbon on Earth decreases.

Climate change is different from AI technology, which until now has not found a solution to deal with the threat of sophistication from AI.

“With climate change, it’s very easy to recommend that what you should do is stop burning carbon. If you do, in the end everything will be fine. For this it is not at all clear what you have to do,” said Hinton.

In the interview, Hinton also responded to the steps by Elon Musk and other technology experts, who asked AI companies to stop AI training. He himself disagreed with the request, because what he had to think about now was dealing with AI threats.
