iwanrj.com – Jakarta – Oppo closed its Shanghai China-based subsidiary, named Zeku. The closure of the Oppo chipset factory was carried out as a result of economic uncertainty or global economic recession and the sluggish smartphone industry.
Oppo’s move to suddenly shut down Zeku shocked employees and the public. The reason is, the Chinese government is pushing for semiconductor self-sufficiency in the country.
Oppo announced the move on Friday (12/05/2023), with a brief statement and blaming uncertainty in the global economy and smartphone market as the reason for closing the factory.
Zeku itself was founded in 2019 and focuses on developing internal co-processors, ISPs, modems, power management, and audio chips. Based on speculation, Oppo is investing more than USD 1.4 billion or Rp. 60.8 trillion in its chipset development business.

quoted Telset from GSMArena as of Saturday (13/05/2023), the chip design company is responsible for the development of the MariSilicon chip series which includes the MariSilicon X ISP and MariSilicon Y audio chips.
This means that with the closing of the chipset factory, it is very likely that the next Oppo newest cellphone will not be supported by the MariSilicon X ISP or MariSilicon Y chipsets and will automatically have an impact on smartphone performance in the future.
In addition, there was news that Oppo wanted to make its own chipset for smartphones. At the end of 2022 a blogger who has access to information on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), revealed that Oppo is currently developing an application processor for smartphones.
According to information from the anonymous blogger, the Oppo chipset developed uses 4nm manufacturing technology and a 5G modem. It is planned that the original chipset made by Oppo will be released in the second quarter of 2023, and will be mass produced in the third quarter of 2023.
