iwanrj.com – Jakarta – Google plans to replace the lock icon that appears in the Google Chrome application, because many people don’t understand and are confused with the icon.
As a Chrome user, you must often see a lock icon that appears in the site column at the top of the screen. The icon will appear when the user wants to write a site address in the column provided.
Unfortunately, even though the padlock icon has been around for a long time, many users don’t know the meaning of the padlock icon in Chrome.
According to Google research, only 11% of users are aware that it refers to HTTPS encryption. Meanwhile, many other people think that if a padlock icon appears, it means that the site can be trusted.

Realizing that many don’t understand the lock icon, Google finally plans to replace the lock icon in Chrome with a new icon called Tune or key tone.
Google stated that the Tune icon does not imply the trust and security of a site, the security system in Chrome is default. In addition, the Tune icon also invites clicks, giving the user more control over the site.

On the other hand since iOS users can’t tap the icon on Chrome so Google pulled the icon completely on mobile Chrome platform on Apple. While the changes can help keep users from getting confused, they come too late in a number of ways.
