iwanrj.com – Jakarta – At the Google I/O 2023 event, Google introduced an application streaming feature called Phone Hub that allows Android cellphone users to access applications on their cellphones via Chromebooks.
You don’t need to install Android apps on your Chromebook when you need them in a pinch. Google has enabled app streaming capabilities through the Phone Hub feature in Chrome OS Beta.
With this feature, Android smartphone users can access various applications via their Chromebook without having to download them first. For example, users can view access to Maps, track the status of food orders in food delivery applications, without having to log in or download them on a Chromebook laptop.
quoted Telset from Engadget on Thursday (11/05/2023), how the Phone Hub feature works is also practical. Once Phone Hub is activated, you can stream apps by pressing the messaging app notification or browsing the sections Hub Recent Apps after you open certain apps on your phone.

Google does not explain which applications can and cannot be connected, nor about the specifications of phones that can connect to Chromebooks. Google only says that the cellphone must run Android 13 or later.
Then the Chromebook and the handset must be on the same WiFi network and physically close, so it’s easier to connect.
Google has finally reflected that remote Android app access has been on Windows for a long time. However, the functionality may be more useful on Chromebooks because it is more accessible to users.
Further, even though app streaming will not replace native apps app streaming can save valuable storage space. At the same time, you don’t have to switch between devices just to complete certain tasks.

This approach is also more independent of the manufacturer where similar features at Microsoft are limited and can only be accessed on Samsung and Honor phones. [NM/HBS]
