iwanrj.com – Jakarta – Chinese police have detained a man on suspicion of creating fake news stories about a train crash and using ChatGPT to create the hoax content.
Police in Northwest China’s Kongtong district of Gansu province said in a statement on Sunday (7/5/2023), that a suspect surnamed Hong has been detained for using artificial intelligence technology to fabricate false and untruthful information.
quoted Telset from Gadgets 360 On Tuesday (09/05/2023), this case first came to the attention of the cyber division of the regional police bureau when they came across a fake news article claiming that 9 people died, in a local train crash on April 25, 2023.
Cybersecurity officials found the article posted simultaneously by more than 20 accounts on Baijiahao, a blog-style platform created by Baidu.

The hoax content created using ChatGPT received more than 15,000 clicks from users, attracting the attention of the police for further investigation.
Police then traced the origin of the article to a company registered in Shenzhen in South China’s Guangdong province. About 10 days later the police headed to the location to search the office, while simultaneously detaining the man surnamed Hong.
Hong admitted to the police that he could bypass the Baijiahao duplication check function to publish on several accounts that he obtained.
The way the suspect looks for viral stories in China from previous years on ChatGPT, to then be converted into hoax content before finally posting it to Baijiahao.
For his actions, Hong was threatened with a maximum sentence of 5 years, for committing a crime that sparked fights and provoked trouble.
It should be noted that ChatGPT cannot actually be accessed by Chinese people. However, there are still some people who can open the chatbot made by OpenAI using a VPN.
